About Me

 Moving Without The Mayhem

You never know when you will have to sell your house and move to a new place, but unfortunately, that was what I was faced with a few years back. I realized that I was really having a difficult time making ends meet, and so I started evaluating my options. Moving and relocating was simple, and I was really focused on saving cash. I found a cheaper apartment that worked well for my needs, and I began cutting out extra expenses to pare down the spending. I wanted to start a new website all about moving without the mayhem, so I made this little blog.

Getting Ready To Move Locally? 4 Tips For Getting It Right

by Erika Bell

When it comes to a local move, where you are moving within an hour of your current home, in the same town or area, it can be easy to put off the moving process and assume that just because you are moving locally, that you do not need to plan for your move. That is not true; regardless of whether you are moving across town, the state, or the country, moving requires preparation and time.

Hire a Moving Company

Once you know that you will be moving, the first thing you should do is hire a moving company. By hiring a moving company, you will know that you will have a vehicle to move your stuff on your moving day, which will help get the job done. It can be tempting to rely on friends or family members to bring their big vehicles over to help you move; however, if they back out at the last minute, you will find yourself in a pickle, which is why you should hire professionals that you can count on.  When it comes to hiring a moving company, you will guarantee that you have the help and expertise you need to complete your move safely and on time.

Get Together Packing Supplies

You may only be moving across town, but moving items one by one without boxes, can be time-consuming and cumbersome. Additionally, if you hire moving help, you need to have your items packed up in boxes.

Since you are making a short-distance move, you don't need your boxes to be as sturdy as you would with a long-distance move. Ask friends to save their delivery boxes and ask a few supermarkets if you can pick up their boxes. Or splurge and buy boxes for the move. Be sure to get tape and permanent markers. You will also want to invest in some bubble wrap and packing paper.

Gather your supplies early so that you can ensure you have all the supplies you need.

Pack Up in Stages

Moving requires a lot of work, which is why, even with a short distance move, you should pack in stages. Ideally, you will start packing the things you use the least, such as items in the attic, basement, or closets. Then, you will work your way to your most used items.

As you pack in stages, go through your items as you pack. That way, you will not have to pack and move a bunch of items that you don't need. Take your packing time as an opportunity to go through all the stuff in your home.

When it comes to moving locally, don't depend on friends for the move; hire a professional moving company to assist you. Get your packing supplies together ahead of time, and pack in stages. Even with a local move, packing can be time-consuming, so be sure to give yourself the packing time you need.
